Dear Parents,
By clicking on this link, you obviously want your child to be the best they can be. I want the very same for each of my kids too. However, we parents sometimes forget that kids play sports for fun, and sadly, the #1 reason why kids quit playing sports is because they say that they just aren't having fun anymore. Even sadder is the fact that it is us parents who are the ones that are sucking the fun out of youth sports.
My #1 goal with Assist Coaching is to make, and keep sports fun for kids. I want to "plant the basketball or volleyball seed" in young athletes. After planting the seed, Assist Coaching is there to "water the seed" and "give sunlight to the seed" by helping young athletes developing the fundamentals they need to enjoy basketball and volleyball. Practices might be challenging, but they should also always be fun. I hope that your child looks forward to Assist Coaching practices and never dreads them.
Below are some great books, articles and videos that I've come across that have helped shape me as a parent and a coach. Please take some time to check them out. Your child will thank you!
Yours in sport,
Aaron Edlund

When Mike Matheny, former major leaguer and manager of the St. Louis Cardinals was asked by some local parents to coach their sons' baseball team, Mike agreed...but only if he could do things "his way". Check out the letter Matheny wrote the the parents!
